DoorDash Faces Backlash Over ‘Snowed-In’ Hookup Tweet

A historic winter storm is sweeping across nearly 40 states, affecting more than 235 million Americans. While many stocked up on groceries on Saturday in preparation, others spent one last night out before hunkering down.

In the midst of the storm preparations, DoorDash sparked controversy with a cheeky tweet on X (formerly Twitter), aimed at women who might have gone home with a date. “Ladies: if Saturday comes and you get snowed in with THAT man, there is nothing we can deliver to help. Please, be choosy,” the post read.

The tongue-in-cheek message implied that DoorDash would be unable to deliver items like condoms or emergency contraception if plans got… intimate before the storm hit the tri-state area early Sunday morning.

Despite the playful intent, the tweet drew widespread criticism. “Cringe. Drop some promo codes, y’all haven’t done that in a while,” one user wrote. Another added, “DoorDash, y’all got the nerve to tweet about being choosy with men in a snowstorm, but can’t choose to pay your drivers a decent wage? Do better.” Other responses were more pointed: “I’m unsubscribing to DoorDash for this misandrist tweeting, good riddance!” and “Whoever posted this should switch it up or resign,” commented another frustrated user.

This isn’t the first time DoorDash has faced public scrutiny. A recent incident involved a driver attempting to game the system using AI. Instead of photographing a delivered order as required, the driver submitted an AI-generated image to indicate the food had been dropped off. Customer Byrne Hobart shared the bizarre experience on X, posting side-by-side images of his actual front door and the fake AI-generated photo. “Amazing. DoorDash driver accepted the drive, immediately marked it as delivered, and submitted an AI-generated image of a DoorDash order (left) at our front door (right),” Hobart wrote.

Fortunately, DoorDash resolved the issue quickly. Hobart confirmed that a replacement order was dispatched at no cost, posting a photo of his food bag with a human hand on top and writing, “All fixed.”

The storm and DoorDash’s controversial tweet serve as a reminder that even lighthearted social media posts can ignite public backlash in today’s digital age.
